Junior Subjects

When boys first join Sunningdale School from Pre-Preparatory schools, they go into form I . This form is taught many of its academic subjects by one teacher, who is also their form teacher and point of contact for all things academic and pastoral. It gives the younger boys a whole academic year to settle into the routines of the school and gives them the security of a base teacher and classroom. When they move up to form II, the boys are nomadic, and are taught each subject by individual subject specialists in subject specific classrooms.

Aims & Objectives

  • To provide a broad and balanced curriculum that builds on the knowledge and skills acquired at pre- preparatory level
  • To provide an introduction to the subjects and syllabuses taught at Sunningdale, to give the boys a positive start in these subjects and prepare them for further study
  • To begin laying the foundations for commencing Common Entrance syllabuses in the senior school
  • To assess pupils in the core subjects of English and Mathematics and provide support in weaker areas in order to bring pupils to an appropriate level for moving up through the school form system
  • To provide individual education through differentiation, allowing each boy to excel at his strengths and to improve on his weaker areas, giving each child the opportunity to learn at his own pace
  • To provide a programme of personal and social education, providing pastoral care for all pupils in the first form and aiding the transition from day schooling to boarding school education
