Special Educational Needs

Aims & Objectives

  • To maximise the potential of each individual pupil.
  • To provide a broad and balanced curriculum, taking into account the National Curriculum and the Desirable Learning Outcomes.
  • To recognise, record and celebrate the achievements of all forms of learning.
  • To allow all pupils full access to the curriculum offered by Sunningdale School.
  • To, as far as possible, cater for the special educational needs of pupils within the context of normal teaching groups; this is facilitated by the small class sizes at Sunningdale.
  • To apply our procedures for identification, action and review swiftly and effectively.
  • To minimise withdrawal from lessons.
  • To offer specialised courses with option programmes to allow all students the opportunity to achieve their full potential.
 
Topic Areas

Whilst individual learning programmes are created according to each pupils specific needs, the teaching programme will generally comprise of:

Alphabet / Dictionary work
Auditory discrimination and sequencing
Visual discrimination
Reading
Dictation
Spelling
Handwriting
Creative Writing
Numeracy

Each lesson will typically cover three or four areas, e.g:

Reading
Spelling
Writing
